FINAL PROJECT
This assignment is a group project task. My group mates are Ainaa Ameera and Aina Shazlin. For this assignment, we decided to choose Aina's house (that she currently lived in) as a study location.
I chose to study openings, while Aina chose to study beams and Ameera chose to study stairs (of the location).
While doing this study, I understood of the construction sequence that is required to make a good and sturdy building. When one of the sequence is skipped or missed out, it may cause faulty or the safety of the building decreases. Other than that, I have also studied about the important things in a building. Regarding that, I have found out that there are a lot of requirement needed to make a good building. A good design; specifically unique ones would gain attention from people and improve the design field's credibility. Other than that, I have learnt the most important thing; which is safety. After doing my research, I found out that there are a few types of house type, to differentiate the time taken for the building to stand still during a fire (before it collapses). I also found out that, materials used in a building/house would be checked for fire-rate approval. That study is crucially important not only to firefighters (to save victims in the house during a fire), but also to architects, so that they can plan better and choose a better material.
Regarding the final project, I have chosen openings. The openings that I chose is the main front door (ground floor) and the windows nearby. The main door is a decorative carved wood double-door, which I am sure has been fire-rated approved by the authorities for safety purposes. The height of the door is 3200mm (approx) and its width is around 2100mm (approx) .The house (specifically ground floor) is surrounded with windows and glass doors. In my opinion, it is designed that way, for a proper air ventilation and to revitalise fresh air in the house. More, it is also to encourage the use of natural lighting during the day and decrease the usage of electricity.
In a whole, doing this assignment makes me understand how important it is to know what is needed/required in a house/building to ensure the safety of the building and sturdy-wise. I have also learnt that, using openings (specifically windows) to encourage the usage of natural lighting could help decrease the power source usage.
