Introduction to Photography
Weekly Theme-Based Project
Lecture
Today's class commenced earlier than usual. Mr Vinod informed us earlier to prepare campus photos that we took - so he can choose a few for us to edit, print and exhibit them. He also ask us to meet him personally to consult about the theme-based project. He gave his comments and advices and a few things to avoid in order to achieve the photos according to theme.
After editing, few of us (in turns) went to the ICT room to print. After printing the photos, we gather all the printed pictures and kept it in one of the drawers in the Photo Studio.

Experience
Going through the process to prepare a photo for printing was quite an experience. It was quite difficult for me as I am not really familiar with Photoshop. Sarah who understood the editing procedure then taught us how to do it properly, step-by-step.
When it was my turn to consult mr Vinod about the theme-based project, he told me that I need to take picture using natural lighting (sunlight) for a good exposure. I also was told that i need to vary my shots - tight shots, middle shots, etc.
As for the theme-based project, I understood what I should do now but not quite certain on how to execute most of it yet. It was difficult, to get a decent portrait shot of a person. Most probably because I was not sure if the angle and framing I took was correct or wrong. Though there is no correct or wrong, I cant help but think that some bad angles and framing are not suitable nor appropriate for the shot.
Observations
I noticed that going through the process to edit taught me a few things -which I considered as basic knowledge- on how to print out photos nicely (mostly for exhibition).
I noticed that different angles give different feel when you look at the photo. Certain angles, for example taken from a lower angle can make a person look dominant and superior and vice versa. Pretty much my opinion though, it may differ.
I also noticed that I cant choose a decent photo. When I have a collection of photos, I have a hard time to choose photos that are good. I usually chose p
Findings
I realised that printing is not just one easy task as you have to choose pictures with good quality and an interesting point of interest, as well as good composition and exposure. Then, editing is required to adjust the exposure or tones (may not be necessary). After that, adding a canvas to the photo is required so that it matches the size of the paper. And then, print!
As for the theme-based project, I realised that more research needs to be done to make sure I get the angles and framing right. I was informed that the framing may vary but I still think that the framing I took is not nice.
